It is hard to be amazed by anything you see on the internet these days, when you know for a fact that any teenager with a computer and a copy of Adobe Photoshop or other photo manipulation software can put together a fake photograph in a couple of minutes.
You would be you completely sane to first believe that these photographs have been tempered with! Unfortunately, this fact also leads to a bunch of jaw-dropping images that the internet declares “FAKE!” the moment they appear! But, you need to be broad-minded, and always mind that real life is, sometimes, stranger than Photoshop imagery. In fact, some of the most unbelievable, jaw-dropping of those photographs are, in fact, real. 25 of them can be found here.
The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a unique national forest park located in Zhangjiajie City in northern Hunan Province in the People’s Republic of China. It is one of several national parks within the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. It’s nickname is Avatar Hallelujah Mountain after the floating mountains in the sci-fi movie.
The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in the United States of America near the Arizona-Utah border, on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, on the Colorado Plateau. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless hike required to reach it.

The melting house in Paris. Some years ago, tourists and residents of Paris, being at George V Avenue, fell into a very awkward position: in front of their eyes appeared the house, which appearance did not fit into any conventional frame. Uneven walls, blurred windows, indistinct shapes … It seemed that the house was slowly melting in the sun. The key to such a strange phenomenon caused disappointed sigh of those who sincerely believed in an experimental architecture, and brought a sigh of relief among those who regarded it as a mirage. The French name for this Melting House in Paris is Trompe-l’oeil, meaning trick of the eye. Although no longer there, it was found at 38 Rue de George V.

This underwater river, taken by Anatoly Beloschin, shows a flow of hydrogen sulfide (heavier than water) flowing beneath the waves. This is reminiscent of methane hydrateswhich, also heavier than water, can revert into gas spontaneously when temperature or pressure changes, and are a prominent non-anthropogenic driver of global warming (especially in the Arctic).
